Winter, 18th Turn, 11th Pass
While not unnatural in its violence, the dual hatching of Copper Queens Laanasuth, and Zelsk, has brought many changes Pernwide to the Dragon Candidate program. Raising the Age of Candidacy, and laying more rigorous emotional requirements on those admitted into the program and permitted to stay after. Dalibor has settled into an easy peace with the hatching fading into memory and young dragonets and wherets visible as they come into their own.
Included in their ranks are two colours new to Pern. Indigo dragons, and Pink whers, as well as Dalibor's first instance of a dual-bonded Wherhandler. As always, the West seems eager to produce weirdness for the rest of Pern.
Curiously, a steady flow of messengers seem to be traveling between Grove and Dalibor Weyr during the early sevendays of the new season; which is already proving to be milder than some in Dalibor's recent history.

X'ayr of Blue Kuroth, Mayday Wingrider
Member Inventory: View
Bisexual, prefers men.
JM. Harper, Wingrider
X'ayr has ever been a happy, sociable, extroverted individual. He knows how to make the best of, and light of, just about any situation. Yet he is extremely empathetic, and he has a warm, kind and caring heart. He tends to have a high respect for women--not a wonder, considering how many he grew up around, and the fact he has three little sisters! He doesn't tolerate bigots and people who disrespect women well, or who objectify them. While he is very kind and caring, he is very particular about who he lets into his heart so far as relationships go. Sex and love are two separate and apart things, to him. He is quite happy to share the furs with others, but it's not usually serious. While he is all about proper consent and boundaries, and is very affectionate and giving in all regards, just because he sleeps with someone and treats them well, does not mean he wants them to think there's more to it than that. He is the kind of person who can easily remain good friends the next day--and he'll even sometimes sleep with a particular friend more than once, in a 'friends with benefits' kind of way. Still, when he commits, he really commits. He's open to polyamory, but it has to be the kind where everyone is equal. He is very about making sure everyone's emotional and physical needs are met in a relationship. Respect, communication, and understanding and setting boundaries are important to him.
The young man is rather vain, and he is definitely a bit flamboyant, both in his manner of speech and dress. He takes time to upkeep his appearance, from his hair and skin, to his clothes and accessories. He does enjoy the attention it might bring, to a degree, yet makes no bones about letting others know he does it for him, because he likes the way it makes him 'feel like a queen'. He can be quite sensitive about his own feelings, and while he doesn't read into things to take insults, he doesn't handle people disliking him or insulting him well. He is perhaps overly flirtatious, as it comes naturally to him as breathing. He doesn't consider that someone might not want to be 'darling' or 'love', or other pet names. He is free with his casual touching and is often overly friendly, not discerning that it might not be something the other person cares much for. Of course this might result in some hurt feelings on his end if the other were to react poorly. He isn't always hitting on someone when he flirts--he flirts with everyone, no matter who they are. His sense of humor incorporates teasing and flirting naturally, for him. It isn't always wanted, and will be something he'll spend a long time trying to navigate to avoid the discomfort of others, and hurt feelings on his end.
As a very open and forthcoming person, X'ayr hardly handles being lied to well. He doesn't see a point in lying, himself. He has poor tolerance for close-minded, bigoted people, and doesn't hide the fact. Verbally he can get aggressive, though physically he hates to, and will opt not to unless his life or the life of someone else is on the line. He's unlikely to hit back, if hit in an argument where the other is simply angry at him or something else. He does get jealous if someone is not paying him the attention or giving him the time he feels their friendship or relationship is due. That is why communication is so important to him in all relationships. He is too easily hurt by others, and allows himself to care too much about their opinions of him. A person he cares about--and some he may not, even--insulting him or being angry with him can ruin his entire day--or sevenday. Kuroth always tells him that no one can make him feel a certain way unless he allows it...yet he can't seem to help allowing it. He is a little bit of a people pleaser without even realizing it. He cares too much, and it isn't always a good thing. On the flip side, he doesn't care what people think about his sexuality, life choices or the way he dresses, at least. Bigots and generally nasty people are a different story from people that he doesn't understand why they are behaving the way they are, or have hurt his feelings with their words.
X'ayr loves music. It's in his blood, it's in his mind at all times, and his voice is the one gift he is most thankful for. He spends a lot of time singing--and his voice, capable of hitting so many octaves, from very high to mid-range low, is something to hear. He is very good at writing it, and creating new ballads. He can usually be heard singing when by himself, or at least humming. He'd like a couple of firelizards somewhere down the line to accompany him, but hasn't quite gotten around to buying an egg--not when he spends all his marks on clothing and accessories! He's a fairly intelligent sort of person, but his wisdom and sage advice outweigh the typical kind of intellect by far. He's good at all things Harper-craft, but middling with quite a few other things. He enjoys summer more than any other season, and dislikes the cold immensely. He will wear a lot of furs in winter, and be seen quite bundled up due to it. He doesn't much care for drinking, and prefers klah and other warm drinks most. He does love food, and were it not for Kuroth, might be a bit pudgy. His blue makes sure he keeps himself in good shape for Threadfall and dragonriding. He isn't a huge fan of training or working out. It isn't to say he's lazy...it is just something he has a hard time getting motivated to do until he's started into it. He might be a little lazy.
X'ayr isn't a big fan of the word 'can't', or 'no'. Sometimes he'll make judgment calls, and it's not always the right ones. He follows his heart, and most of the poor judgment calls are based solely on emotions. As such, it is both a good and bad thing. He needs to learn that there's reasons, beyond emotions, that someone might tell him he cannot or should not do something. To allow leadership to make the calls, and not simply let his emotions lead him to do what he's told is not recommended or allowed. Fortunately, Kuroth is the common sense of the pair and, while he cannot always stop His every time, can reason with him enough that some agreement can usually be reached, and keep him from doing anything too drastic that might see him in trouble. Still, he'll need a Wingleader he really respects, and the guidance of older or in higher ranked people to teach him that there is a reason for 'no', and 'can't'. He will recklessly risk his own life if he can't see that there are more tactical, intelligent approaches...or that the life of one does not outweigh the risk to all. He is fiercely loyal, and that loyalty knows no bounds when it comes to people he loves.
X'ayr stands at a decent height of 6'1". It was only after becoming a dragonrider that the young man put on a bit of muscle, and yet he is not so particular about it as many men are. He is toned, and there is definition, but it is not really notable unless he is wearing form fitting clothing or nothing at all. Even then, it is quite moderate in comparison to many dragonmen. He prefers to have a bit of a 'softer' look to him, and doesn't worry about it or obsess over it. His eyes are a clear blue-green, more blue or green depending on outside factors such as lighting, clothing, or mood. He is, to be fair, quite vain about his appearance. His hair is jet black with a healthy, raven sheen to it. His eyebrows are likewise. His complexion is clear and fair, and he won't tell you he takes pains to keep it that way, but does. A full mouth always seems to have some kind of sheen to it--balm on the lips to keep them moist--and is usually smiling or smirking as if he knows or finds something amusing. His nose is neither small nor large, but finely angled. His jawline, while he is predisposed towards a more 'baby-face', is angular and sharp as well.
His style of dress and the fact he clearly wears kohl and other facial make-ups easily distinguish him from others. He tends towards more extravagant styles of dress. Leathers, usually in black. Bits of silver metal for 'studs' or embellishments. Fingerless leather gloves, bracelets and necklaces, and a single piercing in each ear, done by his grandmother at his request. Fancy leather boots, form fitting clothing, embellishments of dyed feathers or furs, belts and buttons...he spares no expense when it comes to his clothing. If he hasn't the marks to get it customized or made, he has learned to make or expand upon chosen pieces himself. He does not, like some, do it to be noticed. He does it for himself, though again, he is vain about his appearance and greatly enjoys standing out and feeling like a queen.

Xaviayr was born at to Xaverin and Sayria, a Master Harper who joined a caravan for the love of a woman, and a Trader. Xaverin was thirty-six when Sayria's caravan visited Benden, where he was posted and originally born. It was love at first sight. As a Master, he was perfectly free to do with his life as he wished at that point. She was pregnant with their son a turn later. At twenty-nine, Sayria gave birth to a healthy baby boy and named him Xaviayr. The little trio were a happy family, and continued to grow as four turns later, a younger sister was born, and two more two turns, and then another four turns, later. The happy family numbered six once all was said and done. Along with Sayria's parents, and two aunts, Xaviayr was surrounded by family--and a lot of women!
As the oldest sibling and with so many younger sisters, Xaviayr, or Ayr, as he was more often called, was protective of them and considered them under his watch. A happy, bright and easy-going child, he was not at all shy and extremely sociable from the get go. He rarely cried as a baby, Instead he was always smiling and laughing--and singing. Of all the children, it was Ayr who inherited most of his father's musical talents. His voice was something to hear even as a child, yet his father feared he would lose it once he came of age. He did not, however, and at ten Turns of age, he was sent to Fort to apprentice at the Hall. His father had begun his teachings far before that, however, as he himself was already a Master when he met Xaviayr's mother. Though he hated to leave his large family behind, Ayr wasn't the sort to let anything stand in the way of doing what he wanted most.
A quick learner, Ayr excelled at the craft. While his strength was clearly vocal, he still managed to have an amazing ear for instruments. He was very crafty--he owed that to his mother and aunts--and had a fine talent for making them, too. While he didn't enjoy copying notes, he did love writing music. Overall, it was a craft the young man was born into. As social and friendly as he was, he was also outspoken and brazen, and often flirtatious. He did get into his share of trouble, like most children and teens are wont to do, but nothing too serious. He was never malicious or intended anyone any ill. There were people he didn't care for, and they didn't care for him, but he generally tended to get on well with most.
When he was fourteen, Ayr attended a Gather at Fort Hold. At that Gather, he was Searched by a bluerider, whose blue insisted Ayr was a perfect candidate for Impression. However, Ayr had a goal in mind, and it wasn't to be a dragonrider. He liked the fanciful idea of dragonriding, and was fascinated by the idea of the bond that came with it. Still, he wasn't the sort to start things and not see them through, so he politely turned them down, and explained he meant to walk the tables in a few turns--and he did! Letters to his parents during this time were frequent and often--as well as to his sisters and the rest of his family and friends who traveled with the caravans. Much to his delight, Saiyari joined him at Harper Hall when she turned ten. Closest in age to him, with a difference of only four Turns, she at least got to spend a couple Turns with him at the Hall, four Turns after he'd arrived himself. His other sister went to Healer Hall, also located at Fort, and the youngest was Searched herself while the caravan was at Fort Weyr. She, unlike her older brother, chose to Stand.
Ayr had never really placed much thought into his sexuality. He liked who he liked, and when he realized he preferred men more than women--but found both attractive, and wasn't going to let gender decide anything for him--it phased him not a bit. He was always quite the flirt, and never really one to hold back how he felt or what he was thinking. He had quite a few experiences with persons of both genders, and even a relationship that lasted two turns before he realized his priority, until he walked the tables, was his craft and that he didn't have the time for it he felt the other deserved. Yet the easy going, flirtatious young man with his poignant sense of style had little trouble with relationships of any kind. He thought nothing strange about any form of love or relationships--polyamory, or any of the sexual preferences of others. Open minded and forward thinking, it likely aided in learning the more political and social aspects of his craft. He preferred to solve problems and resolve things so that everyone was happy with the outcome--he rarely was the cause of them.
Doomfall was a nightmare. X'ayr remembers that time well, as it still haunts his dreams. He had no clue where his family was, if they were safe. They were fortunate enough to be at a Weyr when it fell, and safe. Yet he had no clue. He thought they might still be on the way to one, or at one of their stop-overs where they might not get to the cave or shelter in time. At the Harper Hall, they were under the protection of Fort. He remembers the keens of dragons and firelizards as riders and dragons were scored by the enormous clumps and died. While he lost no one he was particularly close to, he had known two of the riders who died in the nightmarish Fall. It was, in his mind, the worst way to go. He was quite emotional for many, many sevendays after, and would remain ever fearful that a day would come again when another Doomfall would strike Pern.
At nineteen turns of age, Xaviayr walked the tables. His father was especially proud, but so were the rest of his family. Xaviayr fully intended to see things through until he was a Master. He was posted at Benden Weyr, and was hardly thinking of the fact that he'd been Searched four turns prior. He attended hatchings, the same as anyone else at the Weyr, with little thought to that fact. It was probably something he ought to have remembered, but he didn't think much of it. So it was, that at nineteen turns of age, Xaviayr Impressed.
The blue that chose him calmly made its way up to the Stands where the older teen sat, jovially flirting with a young man he'd made friends with--a drudge. Ayr didn't even notice, so silent was the approach, that the midnight-blue with stark-white markings dragonet was headed his way. Clearly the others at the hatching did, and there were pointed fingers and murmurings as the blue headed the young man's way. Finally, though, he did notice--when the blue stopped right in front of him. He merely had to look at the dragonet, and Impression occurred. It might not have been what Xaviayr, now X'ayr, had wanted. He had, after all, not planned on it. Still, he couldn't deny the strength of his bond with the dragonet who announced himself as Kuroth.
The bond between the pair was not an easy one. They were constantly at odds between the reserved, realistic blue's calm aloofness, and X'ayr's extremely social, outgoing nature. Introvert and extrovert. Social and aloof. Dreamer and realist. Kuroth seemed wise beyond his Turns, and while he was slowly but surely helping X'ayr mature and grow into an even better rider and Harper, the young man didn't realize it. X'ayr was trying his hand at a few things--such as designing and altering his own clothing, and making fancy, crafty straps and gear. He constantly wanted to 'fancy up' his partner, which Kuroth hadn't much tolerance for. They still managed to graduate weyrlinghood having done well. X'ayr was still trying to balance his craft with lessons, and it was Kuroth who reminded him to sleep, eat his meals, and to get everything done. The sensible, calm blue had a solid head, and while he seemed at first rather cold and unempathetic, X'ayr soon learned it was that the blue simply took everything in stride, and had a different way of thinking about things.
Once graduated, X'ayr wanted to continue working on his craft and to go to a smaller Weyr. Benden was the stuff of legends, there was no doubting that. But X'ayr had grown up in a close knit family, and then with his fellow apprentice Harpers. He missed the close knit feeling of smaller group of people, and so he made inquiries about Grove and Dalibor, two Weyrs that were far newer, and one of them seeming to always have something going on. Dalibor was selected for this fact, and that he'd heard it was more open minded and easy-going--just what he liked. However, during the time they were making their requests for a transfer, both Grove and Dalibor were stricken with some kind of plague, so he had to wait. He wanted to be sure it had well and truly passed, and so decided not to apply for a transfer until middle of the next season. So it was that in the spring of year 18, the pair requested a transfer, and it was granted. X'ayr is eager to meet new people and to make a home in his new Weyr, while Kuroth is determined to keep him on a straight path to meet his goals--and perhaps advance them in ways of his own!
Kuroth is the polar opposite of his rider. Silent and rarely ever speaking to anyone save X'ayr, he is quiet and contemplative. He is a thinker, who is equally the brains of the operation with his simple, clear logical way of speaking and suggesting things. Kuroth has a quiet sort of curiosity, and is always watching everyone and everything. He rarely questions anything, but learns through this watching and listening. He is near impossible to phase, and seems to accept everything as 'in due course'. He has extreme patience and tolerance, where his rider can be a bit more impatient at times. Kuroth is as reliable and steady as the best port in a storm. He realizes his rider's shortcomings and is able to help him to be as best he can be.
Kuroth enjoys time alone with his rider and away from others more than many blues would. He is rather aloof and there is an air of silent mystery to him. If he has something he feels needs saying, he says it, no matter what it is or to whom. Yet there is an eerie wisdom to the blue, beyond his turns of life, and what he says is always useful and reliable. He does not lie, and has little tolerance for lies or deception--which he can often see right through. Death isn't something that seems to phase the blue, either. He merely accepts it as part of life. Everything, to him, is simply a natural part of life. It isn't that he is emotionless and not saddened at all by the passing of others. He simply is able to accept it and live his life in the moment much more easily than most.
Kuroth is not particularly in need of proving himself, not even in regards to flights. He is very aware of his own position in the Weyr, and very aware of his own strengths and skills. He is less interested in flights than his rider, but will chase both to humor his rider and because he enjoys them well enough. He seems to prefer cyans, but will chase whichever color he feels like--especially if that one's rider is of interest to His.
Kuroth is so dark a midnight blue that in darker lighting he appears nearly black. In the night-time he is quite hard to spot, save for the stark, periwinkle blue upper half of his head that appears like a skull is sitting over the top of it. This same color can be found on the underside of his wings, along the wing-bones. The undersides themselves are even darker, appearing black. The ridges on his neck all down his back are also the same pale, pale blue. He makes an eerie figure to behold. He is more thickly built than many blues--more like a brown--and as large as a blue comes. When he moves, however, it is as sleekly and silently as any cat, with a quiet kind of dignity and care for where he places his limbs.
Kuroth Impressed to Xaviayr, afterwards X'ayr when the young man was nineteen turns of age. X'ayr's easy-going confidence, flirtatiousness, friendliness and outgoing personality was tempered well by Kuroth's quiet, realistic nature. X'ayr didn't really expect to Impress at all, since he had decided he was content in his life as a crafter. Needless to say, Kuroth had other plans. During weyrlinghood, as sociable and friendly as X'ayr was, they had a hard time seeing eye to eye. Kuroth preferred quiet and solitude, and did not want to be 'made pretty' by all the fanciful things his rider tried to get him to be more interesting looking with. Decorated straps, comments that he should have liked a cyan or pink...they had a lot to work through, and still X'ayr often thinks Kuroth is a spoil-sport and not much fun.
Once graduated, they were put in a wing. Kuroth won their first flight. It was a cyan, and X'ayr enjoyed the experience immensely, and insisted they ought to participate in more flights. Not that Kuroth minded, for it was nice and well enough, but the flights he joined thereafter were mostly at his rider's behest. Kuroth was ever the responsible one, making sure his rider kept up with all of his responsibilities and training, until his rider could fall into a pattern of getting it all done and not wanting to simply socialize and make pretty things. He was the one making sure X'ayr got enough sleep and remembered his meals and to make sure things that needed doing, all got done. X'ayr is managing to mature nicely alongside Kuroth, even if he doesn't recognize it or see it that way just yet.
X'ayr made friends very easily, and yet was not particularly closer to anyone at Benden than they might be at another Weyr. The young man was craving a change of pace, somewhere smaller that felt more like home to him, and decided it might be a good idea to transfer. So it was that X'ayr asked for a transfer, and they set off to Dalibor; it was a smaller, open minded and interesting Weyr, and X'ayr thought it would be good for them both.
