Winter, 18th Turn, 11th Pass

Upcoming Flights/Runs:
Red Ingoth

Upcoming Hatchings:

Winter is in full swing as the Northwest reaches the middle stages of the cold month, and Dalibor, taking full advantage of a crackdust filled break in Threadfall, is back at it again. Delving into the Southern ice and snow, they have paired with Grove Weyr to fully explore the lands they only slightly uncovered the previous turn during the Jungle Expedition. This, however, will not be a warm and relaxing waltz through the woods; although was it ever that to begin with?

...I don't wanna be the one to tell 'em
That stuff that they've been selling
Ain't working like it should
But I damn sure wish it would...

It wasn't so much that he'd been avoiding the ironrider since graduation, it was just...

You have been avoiding Selath's. There was no hiding the truth from the gray, as much as T'vis wished he could at times. The other man had been on his mind an awful lot lately - far too much for his tastes. He didn't have any ill will towards the trader turned dragonrider, in fact it was quite the opposite. Rather it was his past that made him hesitant to even attempt... well whatever it was he was avoiding.

It had been turns and he thought he'd finally put things to bed with his past, it had been easy enough to pretend when Lu'ka had been completely off limits. He wasn't daft enough to risk the man's young dragon by pushing the boundaries of their friendship (though he had been mighty tempted to when he'd turned to the then-weyrling for help with his nasty sunburn). In truth T'vis wasn't entirely certain the other man was even interested in men, much less could possibly be interested in him. As the days passed growing closer to graduation T'vis withdrew into his own thoughts and doubts. All of which had led him to the dining hall where he'd managed to slip a mark he'd saved up to a pretty young thing who had no problem snagging him a bottle of whiskey.

Surely it had been meant for someone else who had probably traded something important for the bottle but that really wasn't any of his concern. Instead of being worried about who he might piss off by drinking their booze his focus was solely on reaching the bottom of the bottle before his not-so-secret hiding place in the far corner of the dining hall was discovered.

Is it really 'hiding' if you're plainly visible? Reith found the entire thing ridiculous and refused to pander to the young man's emotional highs and lows. He had chosen him in order to better him, not to encourage such behavior. Enough was enough, There is no use in mourning those who have left us behind and little point in avoiding friendships, or more, for fear they will leave too. I will prove it to you.

T'vis' face scrunched into a look of confusion, he'd already had a few heavy swigs from the bottle on an empty stomach. It was helping, at least in his mind, but not enough. Despite having been drunk a number of times in the past few sevendays he couldn't escape the feeling of dread that lingered upon him. Closing his eyes they shot open almost immediately - for once it wasn't because he'd envisioned one of the people he'd lost but instead because he'd pieced together what his dragon meant... a little too late.

Selath, mine is in the dining hall and wishes to properly congratulate yours on his rider's knots. He also would like to apologize for being absent of late - he has had a lot of his mind. A good talk might help.

...Whiskey's supposed to drown the memory
I've gone from one to one too many
And the thing that really gets me
Is how your memory drowns the whiskey...
