April 2018 Featured RPG
Welcome
Dalibor is a semi-canon Dragonriders of Pern site. No knowledge of the series or site is required to join; players of all experience levels are welcome here. Founded in 2008 on Proboards and moved to Jcink in 2013, Dalibor has been running for nine years.

News
Winter, 18th Turn, 11th Pass

Upcoming Flights/Runs:
Red Ingoth

Upcoming Hatchings:

Winter is in full swing as the Northwest reaches the middle stages of the cold month, and Dalibor, taking full advantage of a crackdust filled break in Threadfall, is back at it again. Delving into the Southern ice and snow, they have paired with Grove Weyr to fully explore the lands they only slightly uncovered the previous turn during the Jungle Expedition. This, however, will not be a warm and relaxing waltz through the woods; although was it ever that to begin with?

Rule: Free For All Site-Funded Pet Hatchings

Description: All member-run pet hatchings with babies funded by the site (given as a spread by Staff) must be open and available to every other member on-site regardless of any other factors. Members may not be excluded by other members for any reason at any time. Site-funded babies may not be sold, bought, promised, or otherwise created for any specific member; all members must have equal opportunity to receive a pet during a hatching.

Example:

Player A has a Pillie Run and is given 20 pillies to bond to members by Staff. They may use a randomizer, lottery, or guess the number system to give them out, so long as every member on site is free to participate in the giveaway.

Player B purchases firelizard tokens and hosts a private hatching of their firelizard using only tokens that they purchased. These firelizards may go to anyone and the player may include as many other members as they wish.

Source: Staff-determined

Rationale: Running a hatching on-site is something most members want to do which leaves pet slots hotly contested. It is important that members have an equal opportunity to participate in these hatchings, regardless of who wins them, because ultimately the babies are allotted to hatch runners from Staff for the entire site, not a subset of the members. While Staff are completely fine with hatch runners handing out babies in whatever method they deem suitable, such as personality matches or random generators, it is important that all members are eligible at all times for any Staff-funded site hatching.

Rule/Guideline: Candidacy Age
Description: Candidacy age was originally 12 turns for Holdborn, 10 turns for Dragonborn, and over the years OOCly has turned into 10 turns for everyone with dramatic results at hatchings. Going forward, all Candidates will be 12 turns or older for Dragons.
Source: Staff-Determined

Example:
Billy is born of Bi’l and Lily both Dragonriders. He would have normally Stood at 10, but now he stands at 12 with other Holders.

Rationale:
While we understand that members wish to play some difficult personalities and emotions, the dissonance with how young Candidates are reacting to hatchings is causing IC canon errors. Going forward all Candidates will be of an age where they are expected to be better able to cope with hatchings.

Rule/Guideline: Leaving the Sands
Description: Any Candidate (wher or dragon) who leaves the Sands (the area where the Candidates stand specifically) during a hatching, will be banned from the following hatching. OOCly that character is not permitted to be posted in the hatching at all, and ICly that character will be remanded to the Barracks for the duration of said hatching. No tokens applied will affect this ban.
Source: Staff-Determined

Example:
Billy is terrified and runs screaming out of the Hatching Sands because Believath’s children are SCARY. Billy may not attend the next scheduled hatching (dragon if dragon-only, wher if wher-only, and either if dual) which will give him time to show a marked improvement in his ability to handle what happens on the Sands.

Dilly is asked by a Healer to come help at Healer Camp, so because Dilly is a hero and thinks she can save everyone, Dilly is also banned from the next scheduled hatching for leaving the Sands.

Rationale:
The Weyr trains Candidates in order to fight Threadfall or defend her against wild whers and any who might harm her. The hatching is the least of a Candidate’s worries in terms of of what they will see and experience over their life. If a Candidate is unable to handle a Hatching then they require further tutelage, and lessons catered specifically to their fears, to help them remain emotionally well on the Sands.

Rule/Guideline: Leaving the Program
Description: Any Candidate who leaves the Wher or Dragon Program for any reason, will no longer be permitted to return, and will furthermore be banned from attending any Hatchings hosted at Dalibor Weyr from the Stands. No applied tokens will overwrite this ban, so Players should think carefully about this choice. All Candidates who leave a Program must show aptitude in a Craft or other type of work in order to be permitted to remain at the Weyr.
Source: Staff-Determined

Example:
Billy is traumatized by what he has seen and decides that instead of working with the Candidatemasters to overcome his fears, that he is going to take a sabbatical from Standing, but the Weyr is a military operation and there are plenty of Candidates eager to fill Billy’s shoes so they tell him he is no longer necessary. Billy tries to do some Crafting, but fails, and is sent back to his original Hold. If Weyrborn, Billy is forced into one task or another because the Weyr owns him anyway due to providing food and shelter.

Rationale:
There are far too many Candidates dropping into, and out of, the Programs at Dalibor Weyr in a way that directly contradicts the Militaristic nature of the Weyr and the Programs that are training new fighters to Fly and Die against Threadfall. Going forward, in order to preserve the IC canon of the Programs, In-Character Actions will have severe In-Character Consequences where abandoning a Program are concerned.

Rule/Guideline: Optional Preferences
Description: Going forward, every on-site preference section must contain at least one ‘non-shiny’, ‘non-ranker’ colour choice, or the preferences will be deleted, and your preferences marked as forfeit for that character.
Source: Staff-determined

Example:
Billy makes his character Billy, and wants a Gold > Bronze > Red > White
Billy reads the guidelines and says aww, what do they know.
Billy’s preferences are deleted and in the Hatchland thread his character is marked ‘Open to All’

Rationale:
‘Shiny-Only’ preferences have always been case-by-case at Dalibor, but we have never had so many of them on-site as we do right now, and it is causing Hatchmommas stress and confusion. Preferences have always been optional, and Hatchmothers are encouraged to Impress outside of them when they have a perfect match, but that doesn’t mean the Hatchmommas aren’t stressed by doing so and actively avoid it.

Most Hatchmommas have openly said they choose characters with no preferences over highly restrictive characters due to the anxiety it can cause. While trusting our members better judgement worked in the past, Staff have found that it is no longer an option. In order to preserve the sanity of our Hatchmothers when dealing with very restrictive preferences, we are making this change for every member on site including Staff so that everyone is involved in the change. New, old, or not-even-created. Going forward, preferences will be revised during Application.

Rule/Guideline: Elides and Characters
Description: All MALE ONLY Dragon or Dual Candidates who have a specific elide in mind, must list the elide on their application either after their name, or in their dragon preferences. Any Character that does not have a preference, and is given one ICly by a dragon, has forfeit their right to PM a Hatchmother and request a change in elide.
Source: Staff-Determined

Example:
Billy’s app for Billy doesn’t have an elide listed anywhere, so the Hatchmoma spends a lot of time thinking about what to elide him and finally chooses B’ly. Billy immediately sends a message begging that their name be “B’lly” instead. The Hatchmomma now has to go edit their entire post and is very sad.

Rationale:
Hatchmothers spend a lot of time preparing a hatching, and making the matches isn’t even the tip of the iceberg. Personalities, appearances, art, and then what to do about elides missing from apps? How do you know if it’s the right elide? How do you ask without spoiling the Impression? You don’t! So hatchmommas do as good as they can, but having PMs suddenly sent during a hatching, needing to change things, can cause stress and make hatchmommas feel like they didn’t do a good enough job for their members. Please, choose your elides if you have one in mind!
