Welcome
Dalibor is a semi-canon Dragonriders of Pern site. No knowledge of the series or site is required to join; players of all experience levels are welcome here. Founded in 2008 on Proboards and moved to Jcink in 2013, Dalibor has been running for nine years.

News
Winter, 18th Turn, 11th Pass

Upcoming Flights/Runs:
Red Ingoth

Upcoming Hatchings:

Winter is in full swing as the Northwest reaches the middle stages of the cold month, and Dalibor, taking full advantage of a crackdust filled break in Threadfall, is back at it again. Delving into the Southern ice and snow, they have paired with Grove Weyr to fully explore the lands they only slightly uncovered the previous turn during the Jungle Expedition. This, however, will not be a warm and relaxing waltz through the woods; although was it ever that to begin with?

The Expedition has come to a close, and it seems very much like the illness will run its course. But what have we really learned? As a whole, Pern has no idea how this illness started. It has a fifty percent mortality rate, and infects everyone regardless of age, relative health, or usual reaction to infection.

Kiveena was more or less recovered though she wasn’t about to go out again considering what happened in the aftermath of what happened the last time that she went out as part of the expedition. She also moved the flower that she had brought back as a specimen farther away from the Base Camp having a significantly lowered opinion of it until Pern had a better understanding of the disease that had just struck. Kiveena didn’t know how far she should go with this, though she did say something about her suspicions but her knowledge on the Healer Craft started and pretty much ended with Dragon Healing so she wasn’t by any stretch an expert on the subject.

Koloth was happy about Kiveena’s recovery, though now with the expedition wrapping up he wasn't happy with their small participation in the expedition that did dampen his mood a little though for once he didn’t have much in terms of options for now. Kiveena’s family back in Crescent Hold were happy about the fact that she had avoided the worst of the illness that had struck a good chunk of those that were now occupying a Base Camp not far from Grove Weyr and now in the very Weyr that they looked for protection during Threadfall.

Day 7

They finished their journey and C'ian came back to the base looking rather like he had fallen in a lake. If people didn't know better, they would think that he had indeed fallen into the glacial lake once again. He staggered into the Weyr with one thought on his mind. He had to rescue the Lady Roselle from the evil Lord Holder and make sure that she was safe. His trusty second, Riyd had been protecting him all this time. Keeping his appraised of the situation back home. Even now the trusty Guard stood beside... Wait, where was he going? Oh well, he had to find Roselle.
C'ian, I do not think these thoughts are accurate. Tserieth and Hers are quite well, I assure you.

A TRICK! Make it sound like his steed and try to persuade him to allow the Lord Holder to keep Roselle captive. WELL, not on C'ian's watch. He looked around wildly and saw someone approach him.
"BACK. I shall not allow you to keep me from the Lady Roselle you fierce pirate. Fight me, if you dare ha HAR!"
He drew a knife and brandished it wildly in a random direction.
C'IAN! YOU FOOL.
There was that voice again.

The rider spun on the spot, a manic grin on his face. Those that knew of C'ian might even think he was actually acting normally. He continued to spin wildly until a force landed on his chest crushing him.

Thank you Riysk. I apologise for his behaviour.
They were all conspiring against him. HOW DARE THEY! His steed also?!
"Just try to keep me from her!" He pushed against the wher but she had dug her claws into the ground and was holding him down.

C'ian wriggled and writhed and then reached out a hand dramatically.
"I SHALL NOT FAIL YOU LADY ROSELLE. I SHALL REACH YOU AS SOON AS I AM NO LONGER A CAPTIVE! I SHALL BRING YOU THE FLOWER AND THE BUTT!"
Then came the mad laughter and it did not stop almost the whole night he lay there on the ground restrained by Riysk. The wher often relaxing her position, him trying to run and then her pouncing on him again, slapping him once or twice with her fin like tail.

Tserieth ahh... Well let Yours know that Mine is acting quite unwell. Perhaps stay away for the moment, we have things in hand but I thought you should know that we will have to wait it out here a while longer. C'ian insists on bringing Roselle a... gift.
Shirath dictated the note and had a firelizard deliver it to Roselle and her dragon.

Seeing him was the last thing she expected and yet in her delirious state that spanned a number of days she could have sworn she saw him plenty of times. In the face of the Grove healer who came to check on her when those from her own Weyr were busy with others. Wishful thinking brought on by her high fever but that was gone now, her fever had broken and while her temperature was still high it was not as it had been. It had been unexpected to have the Alphahandler check up on her in the infirmary, but she knew that the woman was in the south so it was not entirely a surprise. Ruoban had come and spent time with her at one point as well, he may have even held her hand - she couldn’t rightfully remember. The days since she arrived in the infirmary near death thanks to the sharding bug bites inflicted upon her in the jungle were a blur. Now that her mind was clearer she realized the truth - Va’el was not there, he had not come with the other riders and handlers when word went out they were needed. She didn’t blame him for staying behind as she would never have expected him to put himself in harm's way by wandering into the wilds. Va’el was many things but selfless was not among them; it didn’t bother her as she accepted and adored him, flaws and all.

While the fever had been terrible she now felt her cough was ten times worse. Someone had mentioned it would get worse before it got better though she didn’t understand that line of logic. Every few seconds she fell into a coughing fit, her only relief seemed to be when she slept but even that was sometimes interrupted by heavy coughing. A restless sleep had hold of her when he arrived, the handler none the wiser to his presence until she heard raised voices near her cot. Coughing heavily she opened her eyes and tried to push herself up from the cot; days of laying in one spot with hardly anything to eat and being ill left her weak and she struggled. Vessk was by her side in an instant, Dragon man not all bad, come for Vessa and Vessk. Been sick, too. Cheeks were flushed with the slight hike in her temperature as she watched him argue with the healers before making his way to her. In short order he’d placed Vessk’s goggles onto her - something that caused the handler to pause and wonder if this too was just a delusion as he’d never been close enough to touch the green before. When he scooped her up and held her to his chest she realized it was not something only in her mind. She could hear his beating heart and his familiar scent centered her as she weakly clung to him as best she could.

Each time she coughed she was careful to turn her head or cover her mouth with her hand, the last thing she wished to do was spread whatever it was that ailed her. Vessa wanted to speak, wanted to ask him why he was there and what he was doing but her voice refused to come. Whenever she opened her mouth to speak she coughed instead and was left struggling to catch her breath so she stopped trying. He shouldn’t be here. Did you send for him?

No, Vessk no tell. Told others not tell actually. Vessk knew that her handler needed the man and wanted the man but that she was insistent on him staying away. She wanted him safe even as she cried out for him in her sleep and reached for him as she would have if she’d been in bed with him. Her wher was no fool, she knew that Vessa had been - and still was to a point - terrified she was going to die. Having faced her own mortality the first night she was admitted to the infirmary and then again in the days that followed when she was conscious and lucid she’d thought of everything she regretted in her life; Vessk had been there for all of if, steady as a rock despite her own fears. If the rider had not come when he did then Vessk would have had someone send for him despite her handler’s wishes. Both handler and wher were glad he had come when he did.

Too weak to do much she leaned her head back to look up at him, admiring him as he worked her clothes free from her form and carried her to the water. His hands were gentle and caring as he worked them within the chilly water and over her body until she was clean. Already she felt a tad better, she hadn’t had a proper bath in day outside of soaking in the ice water when her fever was so high she was nearly lost to it. Vessk watched it all patiently, while she worried about Hers she knew that the rider could be trusted; if only because Vessa felt he could be. Curious as to what he was doing she followed when he left the water in order to lay Vessa out on the platform he’d made, settling on her haunches in the sand she stayed out of the way as he seemed to have a plan.

Piece by piece his plan fell into place and soon Vessa was breathing in the steam infused with mint and lavender with Va’el’s strong hands working up her back. Steam and lying down forced her to cough more and more, cheeks red as she hacked until she could hardly breathe. This went on for some time but he did not leave her until he had to in order to heat the water once more. Seeing Hers in good hands Vessk finally settled down enough to eat, Thank you., her mind brushed against the black’s as she tore into the herdbeast - famished as she’d given up hunting for most of the past sevenday in favor of not leaving Hers alone.

”I-it’s… f… fine. Speaking was exceptionally difficult as each time she inhaled too deeply she was sent into another coughing fit. She tried to lift her head to look at him but that proved to be too much for her in her current state. Instead she just laid there letting him rub her back as she coughed and coughed and coughed. Eventually she dozed off and that was when he turned his attention to her green. Vessk was taken aback when he approached her in order to take her out into the waves for a bath. Looking between her sleeping handler and the man who had won the woman’s heart she was hesitant but eventually the itchiness of her hide forced her to follow. Careful not to move too quickly lest she spook him she was washed and led back onto the beach next to Vessa’s sleeping form in order to be oiled. Vessa only no want come so dragon man no get sick. Not because no want dragon man. Called for every time sleep, even when very sick. Always on Vessa’s mind, worried she no see dragon man again. Worried dragon man not know Vessa care for him.

Letting him know what Hers could not say at the moment seemed only fair, Only thought of getting back to dragon man. Every day when could think straight. Once she was oiled Vessk slowly shifted away from the man in order to give him some space; she did not understand his fear of her but she did understand that his fear no doubt made what he’d done hard. Vessa stirred when his hands found her back once more and Vessk’s mind touched Hers’ gently, Dragon man wash and oil Vessk. Opening her eyes fully Vessa turned her head in order to look at him, adoration as evident as it could be in her gaze in between hacking coughs. When he rolled her onto her side she lifted a hand to catch his wrist giving a gentle squeeze. ”I… I lov… l-love... you.” The moment was ruined by her coughing but she couldn’t go any longer without letting him know exactly how she felt - even if he couldn’t feel the same for her.

Vessa lucky have dragon man. With that the wher’s jaws opened as she yawned, finally feeling she could rest well knowing that Hers was being cared for. Slipping off to sleep her handler joined Vessk in rest once she was laid down again, not expecting the blackrider to parrot back the words she’d spoken. For at least three candlemarks the woman rested, waking occasionally to cough violently and expel whatever was in her lungs before dozing off once more. Each time she woke for more than a moment she would glance around, relaxing once she realized he was still there and this was not just a dream. The scent of mint and lavender was strong but she didn’t mind it, her lungs slowly but surely feeling less full as she hacked up the crud inside of them.
