: Wherhandler/Wherhandler ONLYBLACK
: Dragonrider/Dragonrider ONLY
The glaciers and mountains are large and extensive, thus they have been marked off into squares to make it easier for characters to explore every nook and cranny. The squares are numbered numerically. Because there is a lot of ground to cover here, there will be no teams for this Expedition. You make your own choices, you live or die (ONLY IF YOU WANT) by your own hand. You are required to bring a friend/NPC along for the ride though - no one wants to die alone.
Your character may move from an EXPLORED (open, discovered square) to an UNEXPLORED (covered, unexplored square) on the X or Y axis: No diagonal movement is allowed. Available moves will be posted with each Staff update.
You may move ONCE per day
, and will then suffer an OOC cooldown period this period will reset every day at NOON PST
. For roleplay purposes: the glaciers and mountains are very extensive, it should be assumed that your characters have returned every evening or morning to Grove Weyr to utilize their areas for mess hall, sleeping quarters, and infirmary.
Taking a Turn
There will be no set order of turns. Once the IC thread is posted, the game has started. It falls to the players to determine their own strategy for playing.
In order to take a turn, you are required to post the movement as roleplay: Your character of choice, your preparations, the area you wish to explore (name the number such as: Square 3, Square 100). These posts have a minimum word count of 100 requirement, but can be as long and detailed as you desire. Your characters may be injured, or, you may find the going easier with a different set of eyes; you are welcome to change out your character every day at will (or in the event of injury).
Example: If Ou'chie your Dragonrider trips over an exposed root from sheer surprise and breaks his legs your first turn, you can come back using Whyamiheresk your unassuming Wherhandler pair on the next turn. Once you have posted, you will receive a staff response detailing your findings, any additional squares uncovered, your rewards or prizes, and any unfortunate happenstances.
What Happens During Your Turn?
Once you post and your exploration is underway, several things may, or may not happen:
◘ If you land on a square with a random event, rolls are made in order to determine your success at dealing with the event and anything it may entail. (e.g.: WHAT IS THAT COMING TOWARDS YOU OH MAN DID YOU RUN AWAY FAST ENOUGH) Additionally, any nearby players may be subject to pass a rollcheck on if they are sucked into disaster with you: For example; you disturb the nest of some aggressive creature, and whoops it begins to chase your neighbor too!
◘ If you land on a prize square you are awarded the prize, no rolls necessary, congratulations!
Yes they are possible, and they will happen! Random rolls will determine the extent of injuries. In most cases you will be just fine (although one of our Queenriders did get plague on her first move during the Wastes Expedition), sometimes you might suffer some slight scrapes, and other times you might be taken out for a few days ICly. Keep in mind, however, that this plot is very dangerous, there is a chance, however slim, that your character might come back injured enough that you will incur a longer cooldown penalty, and it's even possible something so bad may happen that the character in question has to be returned to Dalibor to recover and will no longer be able to participate.
NOTE: Even if one of your characters is permanently removed from exploration, you are still able to use your other characters. You cannot, however, swap characters to avoid any additional time added to your cooldown!
Once all of the rolls have been completed you will receive a reply post from the staff detailing what you have found, what you have earned, and what has happened to you. After you receive that reply you are welcome to roleplay further, picking up/leaving with your prizes and rewards and returning home. This is not required, but encouraged!
◘ In order for a player to take a turn, you must make a post of no less than 100 words detailing your intention to move and the number of your exploration square.
◘ Incomplete posts will be passed up for complete posts: In other words, post order does not denote movement order, ensure you have properly labled your movement, and that the square is available to explore beforehand, otherwise another person may steal your area!
◘ After a successful exploration, you are subject to a cooldown period. There may, or may not, be methods to lessen this cooldown period. There are certain injuries which will add to it.
◘ Make sure you read posts! Re-posting coordinates will send you to a location that was already explored, wasting your turn. If another person posts coordinates and leaves you no other movement options, wait for their results! Refresh often!
Prizes & Rewards
The map is filled with many wonderful prizes that require no ability checks and are therefore open to anyone that lands on them.
Only you receive the prize you land on, your friend and/or NPC do not receive anything for moving with you but glory or death.
Prizes may be sold or traded, and may also be placed on a character other than the one who discovers it.
