Upcoming Hatchings:

With Mutorin of Dalibor's discovery that a number of plants found in the southern jungles can be used as a remedy to stave off the worst of the still unnamed 'plague' the fatalities seem to have tapered off. Most of Dalibor's ill have recovered, if only in time to mourn their losses. Even still a number of Dalibor's wings and prides have seen fit to transfer away following their recovery, as if the Weyr itself was responsible for such a disastrous event - not realizing the plague was spread to the far reaches of Pern by a handful of persons that broke the quarantine in their delirious state.

All things considered life is moving forward calmly for the denizens of Dalibor Weyr and its beholden Holds. Western Hold welcomes new blood in the form of a young couple, Lord Holder Basasius and Lady Holder Baria. Only time will tell what the new Lord and Lady Holder will bring to their Hold, but all are hoping for none but good fortune.

Baria had overseen the preparations to almost an annoying level. It had taken the cooks chasing her out of the kitchens to get her to back off... And then she'd taken to helping set up the tables and stalls, assuring the crafters and workers that she wanted to be helping.

Only after she was warned that time was rapidly approaching did she vanish to clean herself up and find her husband. The husband whom she'd been passing out with every night, too exhausted to do more than talk about this or that. They had time, however. They were establishing their lives together.

And what better way to celebrate that than to host a gather in their new home?

Dressed in Western's colours and her hair neatly braided back, Baria finally found Basasius, hooking his arm and offering him a smile. "Shall we? Everything should be prepared." It was. She knew. "And guests should be arriving shortly. I've requested some food be kept back so we can make sure we eat tonight, even if its cold. I fully intend to eat my weight in bubbly pies, however."

Head held high and looking as proud as ever, Baria had no problem walking out with her husband - The word was still weird, even to her. Until they hit the doors, then she balked, exhaling shakily and gripping his hand tightly. For a moment, her confident appearance was broken, exposing the worried woman beneath to the man she was just beginning to trust.

Jakol had been circling him all day; the Icehowler was excited, clearly. He knew there was something going on, His didn't usually dress in such finery, let alone the premise that Baria's own this-way-and-that was something the barely-grown pup still hadn't gotten used to.

Basasius, however, had. It had become painfully obvious to him that his new wife was more Do than Tell to Do, and he could certainly appreciate that. After all, there was a LOT of work to undertake with this new Holder business, and with Ujarak gone to the Weyr proper, he was on the hunt for a new Steward at some point. Either way, for now it appeared Baria was more than willing to keep up with any loose ends that Basasius himself didn't take care of.

It had been quite the struggle as of late. They were still relatively new to everything, him most of all given at least Baria had the experience of being an actual Lord Holder's daughter. There was a difference in being a Holder's son, and now becoming a Lord Holder himself. Jakol trotted in circles around them aimlessly as Bas caught his wife's elbow, hand sliding along her forearm until he found her fingers with his own, and wrapped her leaner arm with his. At the hesitation, he drew her closer to him; lips pressed lightly against her hairline, and he held her close momentarily.

"You look absolutely incredible, my darling. Don't fret. Everything will be fine."

Basasius had shut the gate to his kennels; people could approach them certainly and inspect the fine Paradisian stock that his hunting hounds came from, and likewise with his runners, but the long and short of it was that he didn't trust anyone to touch them. Not until it had been diplomatically ascertained who was foe and who was friend, and in some respects he maintained his kennels and his stables far higher in regard than anyone but those within his Hold, and his wife. What was his, belonged to him, and he wasn't above fighting to make sure it stayed that way.

Once the doors had opened, he escorted his wife with all the regard of a man absolutely smitten with the woman betrothed to him for the rest of his days out to meet the masses.

"Good afternoon!" he greeted those assembled. "We welcome you all to Western Hold. As most of you are aware, Lady Baria and myself - Basasius, for those who have not already come to know my name - are new proprietors of this fine establishment, and my wife and I are proud and pleased to make your acquaintances. Please enjoy yourselves today, and we will be milling about if anyone wishes to speak. I would also ask that you remain clear from my kennels and stables, as my newly-transferred pack of hounds and my runners are still becoming acclimated to this new home, and I don't wish anyone to be hurt or them to be stressed."

He gave the floor to Baria, patiently there with Jakol sitting at his other side, to give his wife the floor, as it were. Once everything had been said, he kept her close on his arm.

"See? Nothing to fear for, my heart. We'll be just fine. Is there anything that's caught your eye that you wish to inspect? Perhaps some well-crafted finery I can woo you with?" A boyish grin and a wink, before he lifted her hand to lightly kiss her knuckles.

@Captain
@Ivy - *Makes grabby hands at Callum*

Important Info: Basasius's Hunting Hounds take up the back section of the kennel - people of course still have access to the kennels proper, but there is a rope barrier between the general-use area (the front portion) and the rear section where his hounds are. The cages have been covered to keep the hounds from being startled/otherwise bothered by people. Likewise with his three Runners (he brought only three over) - Both stall doors are closed along the corridor, to keep people from startling them/bothering them. He doesn't want anyone to get bitten/kicked, regardless of how personable all of them are, because it's still a new environment for them and Gathers tend to be noisy/raucous situations that could leave them potentially even more unsettled. PLEASE do not troublemaker the situation and go where you aren't supposed to - he WILL kick your characters out and those chars will be reported to Weyrleadership! He's restricting access for everyone's safety.

Baria sighed and smiled at the gentle assurances and affection. "Thank you," she said softly, squeezing his hand and adopting a more professional look, hand still clasped in his. They looked, for all the world, like a newly wed couple in love. No one needed to know that they were still learning how to feel that love.

"Hello and welcome! Our home is yours," Baria made a sweeping gesture with her free hand. "There's little I can add that Lord Basasius didn't already cover. Eat, drink, be merry! Enjoy yourselves and the company provided. Many thanks to everyone that worked so hard to put this together. There will be dancing tonight, after we've eaten. So don't fill yourselves up too much. You'll be expected to dance it off!" She beamed and bowed her head politely. "Go! Have fun!"

Hardly professional, but she was grinning by the end of it, clearly intent on having fun herself. Turning to Basasius, she listened, then looked to inspect the grounds. "There's a weaver here somewhere that made some of my dresses in Nabol. I invited him specifically. I'll be needing new colours." She ran a hand down the front of her dress that was done up in Western's colours as opposed to Nabol's.

"Other than that, I'd like to simply explore and see what we find."

[[OOC:// DREAMDINERS! You may attend this gather. It is after their betweening lesson. Nia is at the Gather watching all of you. Your weyrlings are expected to have the help of a senior rider to help them between here. Feel free to tag Nia/Koeneth as being the one who helped them with the image to jump. ]]

.

This was the first Gather Zel attended as a guest. Ever. She ate at hatching and graduation feasts during Candidacy and earlier in weyrlinghood, but never once had she come to an event like this. Her hand tightened around a cup of cooling klah. She might have avoided this one had Zelsk not been so adamant about their attendance. The moment Ijo informed them of where their lesson would lead, the copper insisted that she wear her very best clothes and attend the celebration. No matter how out of place the weyrling felt in her outspoken finery--the red and gold layers of the dress cinched at the waist with a dark belt--this was the type of situation where Zelsk thrived. She clung close to Hers, as if to emphasize how well Zel's attire complimented her hide, and guided the girl through the room with delicate purposefulness. Zel knew her bonded expectations and did her best to act the part, holding her chin high and meeting the eyes of those they passed, though friendly greetings were just beyond her scope of comfort. Fortunately, Zelsk took no issue with this and made said greetings herself.

The new lord and lady had finished their speech, and now was the time to socialize and dine. A perfect setting to meet new people and make important connections. And the moment Zel noticed where Zelsk's eyes were trailing towards, she gripped the wher's harness tighter, 'You will leave them alone.' The last thing she needed was for her to go barging up to a Holder and getting them in trouble with the weyrleadership for offending important people. 'What if they speak to us, SmartMine?'

'That won't happen. Now please behave. Ijo told us to be on our best behavior, and I'm not sure that strolling up to an unsuspecting Lord Holder for a chat is considered proper. You don't want to make a bad impression, do you?' Zelsk huffed and Zel smiled at her klah in victory. "I'm going to find a place to sit." Someplace quiet and far, far away from important people preferably.

She'd heard, from just about everyone, about the Western Hold gather. It was a welcoming, and celebration, of the new Lord and Lady Holder. While she wasn't all that interested in Hold politics, she loved a good party! Gathers were her favorite events to attend, mostly due to the ability to shop about for the finest wares. Ever was, mostly, interested in new clothes. Now that Spring was upon them, and the weather was starting to warm up, she could dress in lighter layers again. She had learned a thing or two about fashion after watching, and learning from, Osario. Her roommate, who so happened to be a trader, was the perfect example of what just about every person on Pern ought to look like. The older girls clothes were tasteful, and eye-catching. Ever wished that her fashion sense could be quite as stellar, but she was sure such a thing required a keen eye.

The small blond had gotten a ride over with one of the Weyr's dragonriders. Just about everyone who was anyone was attending the gather. She hoped to see Rayna there, if the Weyrwoman wasn't, you know, too busy. It wasn't like she was stalking her or anything... A hopeless fangirl, Everane hoped to earn the goldrider's recognition. There was someone else whose recognition she longed for--her sister. The senior weyrling was difficult to read, especially after their argument at the lake. It had been some time since then, about a season, but Everane couldn't stop thinking about it. The scrap of hide that had fallen out of Ruane's pocket held many dark secrets, ones that she was sure she ought not to know. Was she the only one who now knew? Who else had Ruane told? Her older sister was much more reserved than she, so much so that Ever wasn't sure they were much alike at all... The thought just about broke her heart. Today wasn't a day to dwell on sad things however, and so she wore her best smile.

The girls growing fare of flits remained close to her. Kirby's mouth was already watering at the array of foods. The pink flit flew overhead whilst the younger yellow, and cyan, remained perched upon the girls shoulders. Reaching up to give Dizzy a scratch, Ever peered about. There was so much to see, and do. Patiently waiting for the Lord Holders to finish their respective speeches, Ever bounced on the balls of her feet restlessly. She wanted to go and see the booths, and buy some bubbly pies! She had a few marks, though not as many as she would've liked. She was hoping to buy something... What that something was, she couldn't be certain. She'd know it when she saw it! A new outfit was exactly what she needed to brighten up her day, but she wanted to be sure it was the right one. At present, she was wearing a simple white dress. There was lace detailing about the neck, sleeves, and trim. She wanted to buy something fancier, so that she could stand out a little? Just maybe? It would have been nice to meet a cute boy or two... She'd die of happiness if one of them asked her to dance!

Sparky, sensing His' thoughts, snorted in disapproval. They were here to have fun. Boys were not fun. The yellow kept his eyes peeled for any of his siblings. What was the likelihood that they had been brought to the gather as well? Kirby flew round and round overhead, her excitement plain. Oh, she planned on eating everything she could manage to get her grubby little claws on. She was, unknowingly, a food thief. If she could manage to rope one of her new friends into helping her, well, she'd be set.

@Ivy - {Cairenn/Roselle}

The quartet exited between without incident, Cairenn and Ingoth taking a moment longer to regain her bearings before rejoining the formation beside Roselle and Tserieth. While the redpair had done plenty of practicing after their initial betweening lessons, they were still not used to the process enough to exit the empty darkness of between without needing a moment to reorient to the light, air, and warmth of the real world, unlike their much-more experienced aunt and her green. Still not even fully grown, Ingoth was already larger than Tserieth, the red's wings beating smoothly as she regained her rhythm with her elder green compatriot, while Cairenn raised a fist to indicate everything had come across without incident. Cairenn had barely seen her aunt for nearly the entire Turn she'd been a weyrling... she blamed the fact that the older woman had a child, a weyrmate, her own fully-fledged Wing to fly with... and her distrust of Ingoth. Despite months without incident, she felt her aunt still didn't trust the red after the incident at the hatching, and she wondered if that distrust bled over into Cairenn herself, connected to Ingoth's mind as she was by their bond. The Western Gather had been a fine excuse for Cairenn to attempt to reconnect to her aunt, since for the first time the weyrlings were allowed to visit the Gather unescorted, though they still needed a senior dragonrider to come with them for betweening assistance... a role Roselle had agreed to readily.

Soon, the pair found the landing field around Western Hold where dragonriders visiting from their Weyrs could touch down safely without someone having to try to keep control of dragons of varying sizes flying and landing every which way as visitors flowed in for the Gather. Dismounting Ingoth smoothly and carefully climbing down to the ground, Cairenn disappeared behind Ingoth's protective wing as she changed out of her flight leathers into her chosen outfit for the day. Emerging a few minutes later, her leathers safely stowed in a pack on Ingoth's harness, Cairenn was dressed in a knee-length powder blue dress, cinched around the waist with a dark brown wherryhide belt, the upper half of the dress sleeveless and with a simple scoop neckline that showed the young woman's upper back as well as her modest cleavage. On her feet were black wherryhide boots that reached mid-calf, with a two-inch heel, giving her calves some additional definition. Around her neck hung a simple necklace, a gift from Roselle after her transfer to Dalibor as a Candidate, consisting of a thin leather thong supporting a small green gemstone wrapped in silver filigree. Her thick chocolate locks were being run through with a comb to remove the fuzziness caused by being captured beneath a flight helmet as she walked up to her aunt, her body not the same as her time as a Candidate... her retreat from socialization and focus on self-perfection showed in lean, defined muscle where soft, girlish curves once dwelt, her shape still feminine, but firmer, more refined. "Will C'ian or Rosian be joining us later?" Cairenn asked, trying to act as if no gap in the pair's relationship had developed over the Turn of weyrlinghood, the young woman's voice cool and calm as an underground lake, a far cry from the nervousness slathered in a thick layer of false bravado her tone used to consist of.

Open for tags - {Dijhay}

Dijhay sat in his stall in the Crafter's section of the Gathergrounds, carefully sewing a piece of freshly-tooled leather onto a leather baldric. Around him were examples of his work for potential buyers to see what he was capable of... mostly suits of armor of various degrees of protection, from simple vests to full suits, each displaying the intricate designs and etchings that were a staple of his work. In addition to the suits, Dijhay had prepared for the Lord Holder himself by bringing some examples specifically to catch his eye... Runner saddles, saddlebags, canine leashes, harnesses, and collars, lovingly fitted and beautifully decorated. Peeking out of the collar of Dijhay's fancy, leather-decorated linen shirt, Melchior's teal head scanned the surroundings, looking for signs of any vermin to eat.
