Yonthevro is an adventerous soul. He loves to explore and finds a thrill in discovering new things. He will often venture far on his own just to see what may lie just beyond that next hill. This can lead him to being quite reckless at times though. While he strives to be prepared as he has always been taught, he is overconfident in his own abilities. Believing he can conquer anything with his skill and wits alone, he can sometimes get in over his head before he realizes it.
He is very self assured, almost cocky, in his manner. Even when faced with something he doesn't understand or that makes him uncomfortable, he will try to brush it off and put on a brave face. While he has virtually no book knowledge, he is an excellent hunter, tracker, and fighter with a number of useful survival skills. He hates to admit when he might need help, but will accept it if he must. While prideful, he would prefer to have his feelings bruised than to be dead.
While it may not always seem like it, Yonthevro does take survival and responsibility very seriously. He may take many risks with his own safety, he will never risk the safety of someone else, especially one he considers under his protection. He would rather put himself in danger to save someone than to do nothing. He will also take losses pretty hard, especially if he believes they are his fault or he could have prevented them. While he knows sometimes death can't be avoided, he still takes it personally.
A dreamer at heart, he always thinks there is something better out there if he can just find it. Even when times are hard, he'll put on a brave face and hope for a better future. He'll often lay awake at night to watch the stars and wonder what it would be like to soar among them. Appearance:
He has very pale skin which is broken by a few odd scares. Most notable is a jagged one acrossed his nose from an icemauler. He is fairly tall at just over six feet and his limbs are gangly and boney. His sandy blonde hair hands around his shoulders in a jagged cut. He often pulls it back in a short ponytail. Except for his nose, which he still finds dashing, he might be considered fairly handsome. His eyes are a watery green, that are usually bright and curious.Family:
Eryonthi, sister -4 turns
Thervene, mother, deceased
Yonethen, father, deceasedPets:
(SP 198) Yonthevro was the first child born to Thervene, his mother, and Yonethen, his father. His family was part of of a group of Wastewanderers, who called themselves the People. Yonethen was a hunter and protector of the group, often standing guard aggainst predator attacks. Yonthevro grew up learning to hunt using a spear and to track prey and predators across the snowy wastes. Until he was old enough to actually go with his father, however, he was often put to work with some of the other children watching the burdenbeast herd or preparing meals with his mother. As a boy he could not wait for the day his father would deam him old enough to go on a hunt.
(WI 02) When he was 4 turns old, the happiest and saddest day of his life happened. His mother gave birth to his little sister, Eryonthi. But while he and his father were overjoyed, the pregnancy had been difficult. Thervene soon grew weak and sick and died a few days later. One of the other women helped the heartbroken Yonethen care for his new daughter. Yonthevro grew very attached to his new sister in light of his mother's death. Eryonthi was a bright, if sometimes sickly, little girl who followed her older brother nearly everywhere as soon as she was old enough to walk.
(09) Dragons came. Real dragons. Yonthevro had never seen the anything like them. They were brightly colored and larger than the biggest burdenbeast. And they carried riders! Men from the south, so the adults were saying. The leaders of his group spoke with them, though as a child, he wasn't privy to what they discussed. He did try to sneak a closer look at one of the dragons with his sister though, getting to just within a few yards of one. While he knew his father would frown on it, secretly he wished he could ride such a beast. To fly through the sky and see the lands beyond the snowy wastes. That would truely be marvelous.
(SU 11) When he was thirteen, Yonthevro went with his father and some of the other hunters to seek out an icemauler who'd been spotted around the herds. Still considered young, even if he'd been practicing hard, Yonthevro's job was the keep a look out while the older hunters investigated what they believed to be the icemauler's den and layed a trap for it. Yonthevro saw the icemauler coming, but also saw it had an injured leg. Thinking he could prove himself by killing the beast himself, he tried to attack it. The large cat brushed off his spear thrust and swiped him hard acrossed the face, earning him a deep scare and broken nose. He would have been killed if his father hadn't rushed out to kill the beast before it could bite his neck. While he was healing, Yonthevro's father scolded him harshly for his reckless behaviour and made him swear to never put himself in danger again. While he did promise, Yonthevro never lost his taste for adventure and excitement.
(AU 13) It was in Yonthevro's fifteenth year that tragedy struck his family again. A night attack by a pair of icemaulers caught the camp by surprise. His father had been standing guard and managed to raise the alarm before the large of the beasts attacked. The camp's hunters managed to kill them, but it was too late for Yonethen. Yonthevro did his best to confort his tearful sister, while secretly wishing he had been their to help when his father needed him most. He vowed he would keep Eryonthi safe in his father's place.
(WI 16) When he was eighteen, Yonthevro ventured out to investigate some tracks he'd seen the previous day. Worried she might lose him as she had their father, Eryonthi begged him to stay with the group or at least not to go alone, but he assured her he wasn't going far and would take their father's icehowler, Snowfang, with him. The tracks proved to be those of an icemauler. Concerned for the safety of their camp, he followed the tracks until he reached a small cave opening. Knowing he would need backup, he started to leave to alert the camp when he heard a scream just over the hill.
Recognizing the voice and terrified for what it meant, Yonthevro bolted over the hill. Snowfang was faster. He leapt at the throat of the icemauler who had Eryonthi pinned behind its claws. The beast roar it pain, shaking the canine off and attacking visiously with his claws. Yonthevro saw with horror that his sister had followed him and he couldn't even tell if she still lived. Filled with fury, he managed to spear the beast from the side and pierce it's lung, leaving it to thrash in it's death throws. But it was too late for SnowFang, who's wounds were too deep to be saved.
Yonthevro couldn't dwell on that sorrow for long, though. His sister was still breathing, but her wounds were bad, especially on her face. He rushed her back to the camp, promsing she would be alright and wishing he could be sure he would keep that promise. The camp's healer's did their best for her and most of her wounds healed well. But the icemauler had slashed her face and torn into both her eyes. The pain alone nearly killed her and she teatered between life and death as she battled the infection that followed. Yonthevro hardly left her side as he nursed her for the weeks that followed. Finally, she started to grow strong again, but the injury was not without its scars. She would never see again.
(SP 17) Fearing his sister would not be safe in the dangers of the northern wastes now that she was blind, Yonthevro decided to seek the help of the dragonriders. They still came on occasion to visit or trade and he was able to convince one to take himself and his sister to their Weyr as candidates. While he is excited to see what wonders the rest of Pern has, he is most concerned for his sister and her safety.Blue
Platyth - Yo’vro (Yonthevro) [#9a9fe1]
Platyth loves the dark, he likes small spaces and can get anxious in wide open spaces. This is just great for a dragon who is supposed to be able to fly in the sky and fight thread! Platyth just likes the comfort and warmth of a small, dark space where he can settle down and feel happy. However, this can sometimes result in him getting stuck. The only open space he really likes is the water, he will often seek out the comfort and calm of water when he is beginning to feel worried about being outside.
Platyth is clever and good at puzzles, he can put two and two together to make four but can also logic you into thinking that it could actually make five. He likes words and learning new words for describing things. He is also physical with his affection and directions. Instead of asking someone to move, he will all but pick them up and move them himself. He usually prefers to shove them with his nose. He also likes digging and will use his entire face to dig instead of his claws. It is unclear why he likes to use his nose but it will usually be totally covered in dirt.
He has a strong sense of direction not only in the physical sense but in the mental sense too. If he is given a goal to achieve, he is driven to accomplish said goal. If his has something they are striving towards, he will do everything in his power to ensure it is achieved. Platyth may have grand plans for the future and will not stop until he can no longer pursue those dreams. He is one for plans and executing said plans through to completion. In terms of the physical, he is unable to explain it but sometimes he just feels that he knows the right way to go.
The type of dragon to listen to the plans of others, Platyth may not always take an order as law. He will roll it around in his mind, consider ways to improve these plans as well as whether or not it is a good idea to act on an order. For this reason he can sometimes be defiant and stubborn. He feels like he is unique to other dragons and only feels that he fits in well with his brother Echith. They both like small spaces. Sometimes Platyth also feels at odds with other dragons for he does not feel particularly comfortable flying. In spite of this, due to his strong sense of direction he will have very little difficulty in Betweening and may even be able to do it based on the vaguest of images.
Platyth likes to eat his food by rubbing his maw in it first and then snapping up parts, storing them in his cheeks for a bit and then eating it whole. He is a dragon who will almost always break his meat up into smaller pieces so he can eat them but will rarely chew. He also has decent vision at night although it would not be as good as a wher’s. One of his favourite pastimes would likely be midnight swims if they are safe enough.
