Autumn, 18th Turn, 11th Pass
Wedding bells ring out to celebrate the joining of Lord Callum to Lady Shuli. A grand gather has been put together with people from all over Pern coming to celebrate! Crescent is full to the brim with those who wish to show their support and those just looking to make (or spend) a few marks!
Copper Zelsk shook things up at the Copper Class graduation feast by beginning her run shortly after the knots were delivered to her handler. Bronze Osk won Zelsk's maiden run and now a sizable clutch lays on the sands hardening. Not to be outdone by the ground-bound copper, Copper Laanasuth took to the skies the very next day - though her flight was not as cut and dry as the wher's run had been. Offended by the force catch attempt of a presumptuous burgundy Laanasuth betweened to High Reaches Weyr where one of their dragons won her flight. Though she has returned to Dalibor and laid a large clutch for Dalibor's candidates the Weyr awaits the transfer of the dragon sire and his rider, Dalibor's newest Junior Weyrleader.

Casee, Dragon Candidate

Casee (C’see when Impressed)
13 (born WI:04)
Torn as he is by the usual storm of adolescent uncertainty, anxiety and desire to find a place where he can fit in, Casee’s true self has already begun to establish itself. He is a gentle soul, loving and devoted to the people he cares about, although he is particular about the people he chooses to become close to despite a general kindness to everyone he meets. Much of his natural kindness is directed toward animals; while he is a deadly loyal friend and will do anything for his loved ones, Casee spends a lot of his love on creatures with four legs. Anything with paws, hooves or a tail can count on him to be its friend; he wants nothing more than to take care of all living things, and hopes to specialize in beasthealing if he can one day become a journeyman beastcrafter.
Mostly devoid of the impulsiveness found in many kids, Casee is an extremely careful individual. Everything he does is weighed with potential risk, and while he can be swayed to mischief (mostly through the influence of his best friend Mauschen), he will give himself tremendous anxiety over it. He mostly tries to follow the rules, and he isn’t prone to thoughtless decision-making; the chances that he will jump into something without thinking about it are slim to none. Of course, that means that snap decisions are not his forte; he doesn’t like being pressured or forced to make choices on the spot, and tends to get upset when that sort of thing happens.
Shy by nature, Casee is soft-spoken in his interactions with others, especially people he doesn’t know. Around friends, he is much sunnier and more talkative, but with strangers he retains the attitude of a quiet, polite boy, the sort to speak only when spoken to. He dislikes the limelight and avoids having attention directed onto himself, although he is competent enough with one-on-one interactions. For his age he is surprisingly eloquent and well-spoken, although not particularly chatty, but Casee loves words and he tries to make the best possible use of them.
Despite his shyness, this is a boy whose self-confidence shines through. In him there is a most curious dichotomy of stubbornness and anxiety; as a boy who has been bullied before, he is nervous of othes’ reactions, but he is also extremely certain of who he is. Made fun of mostly for his sexuality, new though it is, Casee is nonetheless not the type to apologize for who he is or what he believes in. He understands that there are things about himself he cannot change, and he will not try to do so for anyone. Instead, though it might garner him negative attention, he is confident about himself, and comfortable with his own person, and he understands better than many that he cannot please everyone even if he were to modify his behaviour.
For all his belief in himself, Casee is tremendously over-sensitive. Even if he doesn’t back down from his own nature, or pretend to be someone he’s not, he is still very susceptible to the reactions of others. Much of the time he’ll try to put on a tough face in public, but as soon as he can escape scrutiny he will usually react to hurtful words with tears. He doesn’t handle criticism very well, and insults are as good as blows to him; he reacts much the same to either, for his emotions are much more delicate than his beliefs. He is quite sensitive to the emotions of others as well, and is very attuned to their reactions, whether good or bad. While these characteristics make it very easy for him to get hurt, they also make Casee a wonderful listener and sympathizer, and he is more than patient enough to listen to anything people would like to unload onto him.
Although it’s difficult to say what will happen when he gets older, for now Casee shows promise of ending up tall and skinny. Currently standing at 5’1”, he is very slight of build, although that’s not unusual for his age. While he likes running and being active, he carries little muscle on his lithe frame and isn’t very strong. Usually he likes to wear over-long tunics and baggy pants, more often in plain, dark colours than not.
Casee’s face is fine-featured to match his light build, with a pointy chin and high cheekbones. His nose is small and neat, set above an equally little mouth that suggests he says much less than he thinks. His eyes are medium blue, set under fine, straight brows and fairly short brown hair, streaked blonde by sunlight. Usually he wears a thoughtful, introspective expression, but his good-natured air suggests that he smiles easily in the presence of those he knows.
Taseiria, 40, mother, master beastcrafter
Cavanere, 41, father, master beastcrafter
Tarsus, 15, older brother, apprentice beastcrafter
Born in the winter of 04, in a small cothold near Western Hold, Casee was raised by a pair of beastcrafters whose craft was their entire life. Like them, his older brother Tarsus was in the craft as well, and so from the time he could crawl, the boy was involved in caring for the animals his family raised. Casee didn’t mind that life; he liked being surrounded by animals – especially the sheep, whose wool his family often sold to the weavers of Western Hold. Something about their single-mindedness he just found adorable, and even when he was little, the boy spent a lot of time just watching the small herd gallop around in their field.
One of the nearby families eventually asked to introduce their son, Mauschen, into beastcrafting, and he was taken on by Tarsus as a sort of pre-apprentice. Mauschen was the same age as Casee, and soon they became fast friends. Most of their time, when they were small, was spent playing around the runners (who tolerated their shenanigans admirably). After a while they both decided to become real beastcrafters when they were older, like the rest of Casee’s family.
As they got a little older and braver, the two began to wander out to the beaches, where they could make up more games to play than they came up with in the stables. Mauschen was not allowed near the water by his parents’ decree, but Casee never told on him. He never told any secrets that his best friend confided in him. Secrets were something of a specialty of his, and he would have preferred that their beach stay one. Nothing ever stays the same, however, so eventually, around the time the boys were ten, the other boys of the area discovered the beach too and began to hang out there.
It made Casee uncomfortable for a lot of reasons. Maus was his best friend, and he didn’t like having to share him with others, whose presence he didn’t necessarily like anyway. That was for a few reasons: most importantly, he was beginning to suspect that he liked Maus as more than just a friend, and he knew that wasn’t the way things were supposed to be. Casee kept quiet about it, but something must have showed in the way he looked at his friend, because when they weren’t together the other boys would pick on him and tease him about it.
Worst of all, they finally made it obvious in front of his best friend. While games of truth-or-dare had become common among the lot of them, Casee always dreaded them. Especially so after one day he chose dare, and the others dared him to kiss someone. All of the group was boys – there was no way to save face that way. So he picked the safest bet: his closest friend, Maus. When he caught him by the face to give him a kiss, the other boy fell backward, astounded. Casee was humiliated.
Once again they ran into each other at the stables and promised one another that they would no longer go down to the beaches. All seemed to more or less be forgotten, or at least swept under the rug, as it were. Not long after that, Maus’ family visited the beach together to pay their respects to the other boy’s brother, who had died many Turns before. Casee always left them to it, but he grew worried when Mauschen hadn’t come home and the Fall was due to start. With all the sense of an eleven-Turn-old, he went out to look for his friend.
Thread came too quickly, and after shedding his shirt in the mistaken impression that he’d been hit by Thread, he was forced to hide in a cave until the Fall was over. For those long hours, all he could do was sit and imagine the awful things that must have happened to his best friend and his family. Casee fell asleep in the cave sometime after the Fall ended, for he was too afraid to come out in case the deadly silver rain returned. Some hours after that, he crawled out and after searching the beach again for any sign of Maus, he leadenly returned home.
When he came back, all they told him was that Maus was gone. Casee spent the next week crying and months after that going through the motions, pining for his best friend. In his grief, he tearfully confessed to his older brother that he thought he’d liked Maus as more than just a friend. Tarsus accepted this without comment, except to give his little brother a hug and let him cry. Only by their father’s edict did he fail to tell Casee that his friend was not dead, but that he had been taken away to the Weyr. A massively traditional man, Cavanere had been told of the beach incident by the father of one of the older boys, who had apparently laughed about it at home. Since he learned of it shortly before Maus disappeared, he chose to say nothing to his younger son, instead deciding to altogether remove the possibility of Casee liking another boy.
Knowing nothing of all this, Casee numbly went through the motions of his everyday life until a Dalibor bluerider landed to Search the Hold. When he was picked as a candidate, he accepted the terms of Search less out of hope for a dragon and more because he couldn’t stand seeing the places where he and Mauschen used to go every day. Maybe if he Impressed something, he could at least serve a purpose that he no longer felt in his craft.
Adoption Preference: Transfer.
I have zero preferences for what Casee should Impress, so have at him! 8’D Also, he is welcome to be mauled! n.n
