Winter, 18th Turn, 11th Pass

Upcoming Flights/Runs:
Red Ingoth

Upcoming Hatchings:

Winter is in full swing as the Northwest reaches the middle stages of the cold month, and Dalibor, taking full advantage of a crackdust filled break in Threadfall, is back at it again. Delving into the Southern ice and snow, they have paired with Grove Weyr to fully explore the lands they only slightly uncovered the previous turn during the Jungle Expedition. This, however, will not be a warm and relaxing waltz through the woods; although was it ever that to begin with?

Qu'yn (Formerly Quellyn)
22 Turns (b winter 193i)
Dalibor Weyr (b. Crom Hold)
Dawn wingrider

Quellyn is a very prim and proper young boy. He takes manners and propriety very seriously: doing his chores promptly, sitting in his corner quietly, and obeying others without question.... when he remembers that he's doing them. For all that he tries to be attentive, Quellyn often ends up latching onto some bit of conversation or an interesting sight that sends him off into a daydream, thinking up stories and tales, forgetting what he's doing or where he's going. Minor accidents tend to happen when he's caught up in them.

He rarely partakes in the rough-and-tumble games that the other kids play, instead choosing to stick close to the knees of the Harper and learning what he can, as much of it as he can. Quellyn doesn't ignore the other children or anything - by far and large he simply respectfully declines their invitations to play. He's particularly gentle towards females, attempting to treat them with all the kindness he can muster.

He's a tough nut to crack in terms of fun, but when he gets going, he adores laughing and joking with others. That includes a deep passion for storytelling - he's memorized many of the stories that his mother and aunt told him, and he's not above weaving his own embellishments into them or into ones that he makes up. If he really likes someone or he can be bribed/begged/convinced to tell one, then he can go for hours!

Even though he doesn't really interact with other people, that doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't outright ignore them. If something about them catches his attention, he'll pay rapt attention to them, sometimes even stalking them to find out more about whatever it is that he's intrigued by. He'll also follow others when he's out of story fodder - Quellyn has discovered that it gives him a lot more material to work with. Though there is a part of him that simply finds it funny when people are unnerved by it, and won't deny that occasionally is more of a driving force than anything.

Qu'yn is a touch on the short side, standing at only 5'6". His hair is a dark brown and a bit of a shaggy mess unless he keeps it short (which he rarely does). His eyes are an incredibly light blue, and he has a smattering of freckles across his face. He's also somewhat pale-skinned from spending so much time exploring the caves. He has a tendency to stare at others intently. He's lost his childhood roundness to a slender, wiry build.

He prefers bright colors - reds, blues, greens, even yellow when he can get it - to wear, and comes off as slightly colorblind since his clothes often clash a bit. Quellyn has a bite mark on his upper right arm, and a thin, straight scar slashing across his right hip from an accident he had as a small child.

Gray - #d1dbdb

Hey you. Yea you. This gray is a big lady, or well, she will be. And she knows it. She puts up a protective, stony front, but her bonded will quickly learn that she loves to poke her antennae where they don't belong. Namely? Romances. She's a meddler in every way when it comes to romance. Because boy does she love Romance. Nothing makes her happier than driving two people who love each other together. She knows that love is the best thing in the world, and will be rather loving towards her bonded, when she's not trying to shove them into her romantic shenanigans, that is.

Glinda (Hatched Winter 005, Copper Shanza x Brown Ground-bound)
Pink-{ffa4eb, f998da} - For Quellyn
A caring Pink, this girl will try her hardest to make others feel better. She has a motherly side. She is protective of those she is caring for. She won't give up if she thinks there is something she can do to help. Even if Hers tells her that she can't do anything, until she sees it herself, she won't give up. (Dr. Chloe Michel)

Hatched AU 07
This yellow loves a good laugh. He thinks most anything is funny, and delights in being silly to get a laugh in turn.

Quellyn was born at Cromwell Hold to a Miner (father) and a Harper (mother). His father had no interest in raising a child, but his mother did, so she kept her son by her side while his father found another woman he was interested in.

Since his mother was his primary teacher, as she was a Harper, he was very attached to her and had a hard time leaving her side. His aunt, Nettle, lived in the same Hold and worked as a baker, and he often went to visit her to sample her treats and listen to the stories she could tell as well. He picked up a lot of manners from his mother and aunt, who tried to impress upon him how important it was to be well-mannered. He listened, both because of his love for them and because he admired and wanted to be like them.

His love of stories and clinginess to his mother meant that he was often avoided by the other children and sometimes outright bullied. When he was seven, he and another boy actually got into a fistfight over it, and the other boy bit his upper arm, leaving a scar. The punishment he received for getting into the fight meant that from then on, he turned their words and actions into the basis for many a story he came up with, usually involving dragons and whers and Thread (influenced by it having begun to fall and the fear that lay bubbling beneath the surface of the Hold) instead of outright responding to it.

The older he got, the bigger his imagination grew, and he often got lost in his thoughts and stories, completely forgetting where he was and what he was doing. More than once, he smacked into a wall or a table. Once, he tripped while in the kitchens with his aunt, and his hip got slashed in the ensuing chaos.

That imagination did him well when the Plague hit. Many members of the Hold grew ill, including his mother. In the early stages, Quellyn would sit by her side and tell her the stories that he came up with. However, it soon became apparent that she wasn't going to make it. Nettle took the boy at her request to try and find somewhere safe, or at least take him away so he could start anew without the memories of her plaguing him. They headed for the Western Continent, and along the way they received news that she had passed away. Nettle kept the boy close in the ensuing months, encouraging his stories even more to keep up both their spirits.

They first arrived at Crescent Hold, but Nettle wanted to keep moving. Since Quellyn's stories and tales often involved whers and dragons, she believed that it would do him good to be in Dalibor weyr, where he could see them firsthand and really see and experience life there. And, if he so desired, giving him an opportunity to Stand for a dragon. In the meanwhile, he's sticking close to his aunt and the Harpers at the Weyr, losing himself in new stories and tales and deeply considering becoming a Harper when he's old enough.

A few days into his stay at the Weyr, he Impressed a grey pillie, Misty, at grey Quintin's Hatching. He adores her - she is perfect story fodder!

Male Yellow – Mydekoth F5F55E
Quellyn – Qu’yn

A daring go-getter this yellow just wants to be part of an adventure. He has a rather childlike quality to him and, in some ways, his imagination can get the better of him. At times it may even be tough to tell fiction from reality as his imagination is so vivid. He honestly and truly believes he is in the world he envisions. An amazing land far, far away with buildings as tall as he can fly! Holds made from glass and volcanoes that spew bubbles, there are some amazing worlds he can dream up.

Mydekoth has this tendency for adventures but that doesn’t mean he can stay focussed on a single task. No, he will often become distracted from his duties and chores as he begins to imagine a whole new situation. It will take a lot for his bonded to keep this yellow on task considering just how keen he is to make everything fun through games. He has very little desire to learn beyond what he knows and, indeed, has a shorter memory than most of his species and colour. When reminded about it, he will sometimes recall the situation but, mostly, he lives in the moment.

Mydekoth wouldn’t be able to harm a fly but he would be able to catch one if he were told it was a game. He even struggles a little with the concept of fighting Thread for he does not quite understand whether or not it is alive. With his vivid imagination, it is more likely that he imagines it as a living organism.

On the smaller side for yellows, Mydekoth will be able to use his speed to great advantage as he ages. He has enough endurance to keep up with most of the larger dragons but also has the advantage of speed. Usually he will bounce everywhere, a lightness to his step that reflects his worry free mind.
